Of Memory & Los Sures
Laurie Sumiye & Andrew Parsons
An animated oral history of a Puerto Rican neighborhood in South Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Voices of Los Sures ("the South Streets") are juxtaposed with present-day images and archival media suggesting a disappearing past. The film fluidly weaves fragments of nostalgia; glimpses into collective memory of a place undergoing rapid changes. Produced as part of a larger documentary project through UnionDocs called Living Los Sures.
Screened at DOC NYC, BAMcinemafest, Rincon International Film Festival, PS1 MoMA, theatrical release at Metrograph NYC.
